WHOIS shows who registered a domain and when. Modern lookups use RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol), a structured, JSON-based successor that registries and registrars now serve. This tool queries RDAP directly for reliable, machine-readable results.

Since GDPR and similar rules, registrant contact details are usually redacted, so you will see the registrar, dates, nameservers and status rather than personal information. Some ccTLDs do not publish RDAP at all, in which case no data is returned.

What is a WHOIS lookup?

A WHOIS lookup returns a domain's registration details — registrar, key dates, nameservers and status. This tool uses RDAP, the modern, structured successor to classic WHOIS.

Why can't I see the owner's contact details?

Under GDPR and similar privacy rules, registries redact registrant contact information. You will see the registrar, dates, nameservers and status instead of personal data.

What is RDAP?

RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) is the JSON-based replacement for WHOIS that registries and registrars now serve, giving reliable, machine-readable results.

Why does a ccTLD return no data?

Some country-code TLDs do not operate an RDAP server. When none responds, no registration data can be shown for that domain.

Is the lookup live?

Yes. Data is fetched from the authoritative RDAP server in real time — no cached records.

What do the status codes mean?

Status codes (like clientTransferProhibited) describe locks and states set by the registrar or registry, controlling transfers, updates and deletion.
